Tonight is the next-to-last full moon of 2023, the Full Beaver Moon.

On Monday, Nov. 27, the penultimate full moon of 2023 will appear as the Beaver Moon.

According to In the Sky, the Full Beaver Moon will rise at 3:48 p.m. EST (2048 GMT) from New York City, while the sun will set at 6:30 p.m. EST (2130 GMT). An hour and a half after the sun rises at 6:53 a.m. EST (1153 GMT),

skywatchers may then see the fully lighted moon in all its majesty until it sets at 8:28 a.m. EST (1328 GMT). When the full moon occurs precisely, it will be 180 degrees distant from the sun from Earth's centre and vividly visible in the constellation Taurus,

The moon's lighted face will begin to decline after the Beaver Moon, a phenomenon known to astronomers as waning. Up to the totally black new moon on December 12, the lunar face will continue to gradually become darker.

The last new moon of 2023 will also mark the start of the last lunar cycle of the year, which will culminate in the Cold Moon of December, the last full moon of 2023, which rises on December 26.

The full moon in November is known as the Beaver Moon, according to Farmer's Almanack, since these creatures have accumulated enough food supplies and start to hibernate in their lodges at this time of year.

The term also alluded to the fact that this was the season for beaver trapping and the retrieval of their heavy winter coats during the heyday of the North American food trade.
